Glyn Ceiriog, formally known as Llansantffraid Glyn Ceiriog, translates as The Church of Saint Ffraid in the Ceiriog Valley.
We can break up Llansantffraid Glyn Ceiriog to, Llan (Church Of) sant (Saint) ffraid (Ffraid) Glyn (Valley) Ceiriog (Ceiriog).
The easiest way to say Glyn Ceiriog if you can't pronounce it, is by breaking it down, start by saying Glin, then try Ceiriog by saying, Kay Ree Ogg, Say it slow and then speed it up until it sounds right.
Starting as you enter the village along the B4500, you will pass Pont Bell Caravan Site, with room for caravans, mobile homes and tents, this site is a quiet retreat for those who want a simple walking holiday in the valley, close to the village and quiet enough to get your head down at the end of the night, many walkers favour this spot.
As you enter the village over the bridge, you now enter the majority of the village’s population area, on the right you will find Ysgol Cynddelw, translated as Cynddlew's School.
Continuing up into the village passing Y Gamer, the village’s main housing estate, this converges with Erw Wladys moving up towards the High Street.
As you head towards the centre of the village along the B4500, you will pass the new Canolfan Ceiriog Centre, completed in 2007.
Moving up the village, you will pass the old engine sheds, now owned by the Glyn Valley Tramway Group.
The Group are working towards a complete reinstating of the old Steam Tramway that ran the whole length of the Valley many years ago.
As you finish your journey up the village, you will come across the Christian Centre, and valley Pharmacist, along with HSBC Bank, of which closed this year. As you have now entered the centre of the village, you will find the Cross Stores, The Glyn Valley Hotel and Glyn Ceiriog Recreation Field.
As you head out of the village from the mini roundabout along side the Glyn Valley Hotel, you will pass one of Glyn Ceiriog’s still surviving chapels. Passing both chapels and heading along the B4500 you leave Glyn Ceiriog with Coed-Y-Glyn Terrace to your right and you leave as you head up the rise passing Ddol Hir Caravan Site.
